Hollywood Director and Producer Come to the State to Discuss Maine as A Possible Location for Upcoming Feature Film “Bag of Bones” – Based on Novel by Stephen King

Two Los Angeles representatives from the film industry visited Maine to explore the possibility of using Maine to locate their next feature film production Bag of Bones – an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1998 novel.

Director Mick Garris, best known for Masters of Horror cable series and his adaptations of Stephen King stories (The Stand), and producer Mark Sennet along Maine film industry advocates Barney Martin and Cameron Bonsey, met with Governor John Baldacci, Commissioner John Richardson, Representative Thom Watson, Film Office Director Lea Girardin as well as Speaker of the House Hannah Pingree and President of the Senate Elizabeth Mitchell in Augusta on Monday, March 2nd to discuss the production.

“Economic Development for Maine has been the mantra for legislators and citizens alike for many years, but given our more severe economic times, even more so,” said Bonsey, a vocal Maine film industry advocate. “The film industry has an enormous potential to be a player in the economic landscape for Maine.”

The $20 million production, targeting summer 2009, has the potential to directly spend an estimated $10 million in the state that will go to local businesses, create jobs, and ultimately boost tourism when the film is released showing Maine on the global screen. “The storyline is centered in Maine by one of Maine’s most famous citizens – the acclaimed internationally known and respected author, Stephen King, who has 300-350 million books. It’s a win-win for everyone,” said Martin.
