A documentary series focusing on a northern Maine logging family debuts Friday, February 27 on the Discovery Channel.
American Loggers is a weekly, hour-long program. The Discovery Channel had ordered ten episodes so far, according to the production company, Half Yard Productions of Maryland.
The series features Pelletier Bros. Inc., a family company that has operated for decades in the Katahdin region.
The Maine Film Office began work with the production company last year. Film office staff helped facilitate shooting and worked with producers to find local crew.
Producer Sean Gallagher told the Bangor Daily News he had developed
American Loggers after watching programs such as The History Channel's
Ice Road Truckers, which features a dangerous, sub-arctic road in Canada. “They do those shows really well, but when I saw (
Ice Road Truckers), I thought, ‘I know a road that’s more dangerous than that,’" Gallagher said. "It was the Golden Road (in northern Maine). I figured if we could figure out a family-driven show based around that, it would be great.”
